Installing
I click the Grabby icon and nothing happens.
Grabby cannot run on Chrome's own pages — anything starting with chrome://, the Chrome Web Store, the built-in PDF viewer, or view-source:. Chrome blocks every extension there, not just this one. Open a normal website and try again.
If it is a normal website and still nothing happens, reload the page. Tabs that were already open when you installed Grabby do not have it loaded yet.
Chrome keeps warning me about “developer mode extensions”.
That is normal for the manual install, and it is harmless. It stops once you install Grabby from the Chrome Web Store.
The Alt+Shift+G shortcut does nothing.
Another extension has probably claimed the same combination. Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts and set a different one.
The shortcut can also be switched off inside Grabby — open the toolbar, click the gear, and check Picker hotkey.
Grabbing a component
How do I select exactly the element I want?
Hover to highlight. Press ↑ to widen the selection to the parent element, ↓ to go back in. The label shows the tag, the classes and the size, so you can see what you are about to take. Esc cancels, click captures.
The capture failed and I got an error.
The message tells you which limit you hit. The usual ones: the element pulls in too many images or fonts, a single image is too large, or the whole capture is too big. Picking a smaller element almost always fixes it.
“Too many captures” means you hit the rate limit — wait a minute. If it says Grabby cannot reach the server, check your connection.
The copy is not 100% identical to the original.
Some things cannot cross the boundary, and Grabby tells you when it drops one:
- Embedded iframes (videos, maps) become a blank box of the right size.
- The original responsive breakpoints are not captured. The preview widths reflow the styles you grabbed; they do not reproduce the site's own mobile layout.
- Custom scrollbar styling and a few rare pseudo-elements are skipped.
Anything else that looks wrong is a bug we want to hear about — send us the page address and what you picked.
Full-page screenshots
It says “keep this tab in front”.
Chrome only lets an extension photograph the tab you are actually looking at. While Grabby is shooting, do not switch tabs, do not minimise the window, and do not click into another program. It takes a few seconds.
Part of the page is missing or blank.
Some sites only load images when you scroll to them. Grabby scrolls the page as it shoots, which loads most of them, but very slow sites can lose a few. Scroll to the bottom of the page yourself once, then run the capture again.
Extremely long pages stop at about 100 screens of height.
Where is my screenshot saved?
Nowhere, until you save it. The screenshot only exists in that browser tab — it is never uploaded to us, and there is no copy on our servers. Click Download PNG or Download PDF before you close the tab, or it is gone.
Do I need an account for screenshots?
No. Screenshots, the annotation editor, PNG and PDF are all free and need no sign-in. Signing in is only for grabbing component code.
Account, Pro and billing
Grabby is asking me to sign in.
Opening a component capture in the editor needs a free Google sign-in — that is how your captures stay attached to you and show up in your dashboard. Screenshots never ask.
Export says I need to upgrade.
Capturing and editing are free. Exporting the code — as standalone HTML or as a JSX component — is part of Grabby Pro, $15 a month or $60 a year. See pricing.
My capture disappeared.
Free captures are kept for 30 days and then deleted automatically. Each card in your dashboard shows how many days it has left. Pro captures do not expire.
How do I cancel or change my plan?
Open the account menu at the top right of the site and choose Manage billing. That takes you to Stripe, where you can change or cancel the subscription and download your invoices. Cancelling leaves your captures in place.
Privacy
What does Grabby send to your servers?
Only the component captures you deliberately make, and never anything in the background. Full-page screenshots stay entirely in your browser. The full details are in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my data?
Delete any capture from your dashboard and it is removed, along with its images. To remove your account entirely, email us and we will do it.
Reporting a bug
Fidelity problems are the ones we most want to hear about, and they are much easier to fix with a few details. Please include:
- the address of the page you were on
- what you clicked, and what you expected instead
- the exact error text, if there was one
- a screenshot — Grabby is good at those
- your Chrome version, from
chrome://version
Send it to contact@webprojectsolutions.com.
